Using the Sheirut Leumi model, the AJL in partnership with the UJF, created the Young Shlichim program in 2003, bringing a young post-army couple to the community to provide Israel programming to synagogue schools, with special focus on work within the suburban communities.

Their programs mesh Israel into the context of holidays, current events and life cycle programs, thereby strengthening Jewish identity, and Israel/Diaspora relations. Throughout each of their interactions in the community, the Young Shlichim bring Israel to life, encouraging students to embrace Israel as a special place that all Jews should visit and experience for themselves.

Often teaming with the Sheirut Leumi banot for community-wide programs, the Young Shlichim organize informal activities with a focus on Israel, Jewish culture and identity.
